What is your game plan?

Have you ever been asked what your goal in life is? Or what is your dream? Sure, we all have a dream … some big and some small, but nevertheless, everyone has their own dreams. But how many people ever stop to think HOW would they achieve their goals and dreams in life? I enjoy focusing on the end result but it is just as important to plan each step to get there. And that’s not all … you have to take ACTION!
I once asked a friend of mine what would he like to achieve in life (in other words, what is your goal or dream in life)? He replied he wanted to be rich one day. I asked him why? His answer was so he could afford to travel around the world and give the best things in life to his wife and kids. I’m thinking – that is just what I want to do too! I’m pretty sure a lot of you are thinking the same. However, this friend of mine has a so-called 9-5 job (but really 8-11!) as an accountant for a small firm. So, I asked him do you ever get to spend time with your family being so busy all the time? It was sad to know his family time is merely a daily “Morning kids” and weekly Sunday brunch before the kids go to their weekend activities/classes. Then, he asked me how I can spend time with my family yet run a real estate/mortgage business while travelling all the time? And my answer is simple: have a game plan! If you don’t have one yet, start working on one!
What do I mean by game plan? It’s simply a plan to help you see what you need to do to achieve what you want to achieve. If I want to be rich because I want to spend more time with my family, then, the first step is to think about what ways can you earn more money but will not take time away from your family like your job does. For my friend, I suggested to him if he could cut some hours or work part-time instead and maybe try starting his own business – open his own firm? His jaw dropped when I asked him to consider reducing his hours and opening his own business … it’s true, not everyone is prepared to walk away from their “secured” job, but what if one day … knock on wood … the company he works for decided to lay off some staff or worse, the business goes under? What would he do then? But if he had his own business, he wouldn’t need to worry whether he gets paid by the company he works for.
Opening a business or starting something you are totally not familiar with can be difficult and quite scary at first … and it’s not for everyone, but if you do have a dream or goal in life and your current job is not helping you get to where you want … you might want to consider trying something new for a change! But before you do, make sure you do have a game plan first!
